| <p>The Virtual Steelmaking Challenge from its start in 2005 has become an anxiously awaited event that marks the height of excitement surrounding steeluniversity.org. It inspires creative spark among students and young industry employees alike and gives them a glimpse of how exciting and rewarding career in the steel industry can be.</p>
|
| <p>The last event was the sixth in the series and it was for the first time that Regional Champions were identified from five continents and were brought together in Brussels to compete in the Grand Final in front of the leaders of the steel industry. This new format gives extra incentives of recognition at the regional level, fully sponsored global travel, the chance to network, and meet the steel industry leaders from around the world.</p>

| <p>The 7th Virtual Steelmaking Challenge 2012/2013 will be open to students, and industry employees (with less than 5 years) and will again take place in 2 rounds:<p>
|
| <ul>
|
| <li><strong>Round 1</strong> (Regional Championship) will take place online on two separate dates:
|
| <ul>
|
| <li><strong>Day 1</strong>: for 24 hours starting at 12:00 GMT, Tuesday 13 November 2012</li>
|
| <li><strong>Day 2</strong>: for 24 hours starting at 12:00 GMT, Wednesday 21 November 2012</li>
|
| </ul>
|
| </ul>
|
| <blockquote>Users can choose to take part on either or both of these days. The Challenge simulation will be accessible only on these dates and results will be analysed at the end of the Day 2.</blockquote>
|
| <p>You will have the task of completing an order for a specific grade of steel using the Electric Arc Furnace simulation at steeluniversity.org. You can enter as an individual or as a team and make as many attempts as you want.</p>
|
| <p>Regional Champions in the 'Industry' and 'Student' categories will be identified for each of the following regions: North America, Latin America, Europe-CIS, Middle East-India- Africa, and East Asia-Oceania. They will be invited to take part in the <strong>Grand Final</strong> (Round 2), with <u>full sponsorship</u> of their trip.</p>

| <li>In <strong>Round 2 (Grand Final)</strong>, the regional champions from each of the categories will compete for the position of World Champion in February 2013 at the World Steel Association in Brussels. The event will be watched by leaders of the world steel industry.</li>
|
